Women < Men ?

If you could change something about yourself, what would you change?

Feminism
  • Your appearance

  • Your style

  • Your love life

  • Your sex life

  • Your voice to be heard

I could make a list that goes on and on. But the point is, we all have similar issues. As women, we have been shut down and forced to retreat to silence. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie‎ says we should all be feminist and as women and why wouldn’t we?

Too long have women been less than men. I call bullshit. We are strong, we are resilient, and we are capable of making change. We have been making change. If we didn’t have feminists in history, I would not be able to be where I am today. I am the daughter of immigrants in an interracial relationship with a well-respected job in one of the most multi-cultured cities in the world. I would not be here if we did not have feminism.

Feminism is not about women being better than men, it is about being equal to men. It doesn’t stop there, it is about the rights of women being seen as human rights, not female rights. A white man has more rights than any other type of human being. Feminism is about destroying that statement in order for the white man to have the same rights as every other person in the world. No more segregation. Men, women, gender fluid, gay, straight, bi or to not have a preference. Whatever anyone calls themselves, we are all humans beings. We all have a life to live and we should do it

I want to make a clear point that although we all must have the same rights, we must respect the laws to protect humans. Murderers, rapists and paedophiles, any crime that has brought trauma, violence or the end to another human must suffer the consequences of their actions. It is important to understand that feminism does not support humans who have brought such pain on another.

Women, for too long have suffered in silence because their voices are not heard. Their words are not believed in. Only recently has a young woman been blamed for her rape because of the underwear she had worn when the assault happened. How can we continue to allow this to happen? In the age we live in, where social media allows everything to be shared at such a pace that we would be ignorant to dismiss it.

The notion that women should live in the shadow of men is a foolish notion that needs to be broken.  We want to break down that fear that women are less than, that people of colour are less than, that to have a sex change, have homosexual or bisexual relationships are less than, to dress in the opposite sex makes you less than. No more to being less than. We are equal. We should enjoy human rights. We are feminists.
